Privacy policy

Effective date: October 25, 2026 Last updated: October 25, 2026

Version française

This policy explains what personal information WhoNamed collects, why, who else handles it, and how you can see, fix or delete it. It applies to whonamed.com, the waitlist, the free report, your account, and our emails.

Who we are

WhoNamed is operated by Eric Bilodeau, sole proprietor. It runs whonamed.com from Quebec, Canada.

  • Mailing address: 151 Rue Cherie, Lavaltrie, QC J5T 3B7, Canada
  • Email: support@whonamed.com

Person in charge of protecting personal information

Our Person in charge of the protection of personal information answers privacy questions, requests and complaints. You can reach this person at support@whonamed.com or at the mailing address above. Please put "Privacy" in the subject line.

Our promises

  • We never tell anyone who our customers are.
  • We never tell a company that you track it as a competitor. The AI services we query see questions and company names. They don't see who asked.
  • We don't sell or rent personal information.
  • We don't post fake reviews. We only share a review if you say yes, and you can choose to stay anonymous.
  • If you share a referral link, we never tell you who used it.
  • Page tracking stays off unless you turn it on.

What we collect

When you join the waitlist

  • Your email address. It is required.
  • Your language, English or French, so we write to you in it.
  • The date, time and IP address when you ticked the consent box, and the exact words of the box. We keep these as proof of your consent.
  • Where you came from, if we know it. That means the campaign tags in the link you clicked (such as utm_source), the outside page that sent you, and the first page you opened on our site.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile checks your browser to stop bots from using the form. See "Cookies and tracking".

When you ask for a free report

  • Your email address. It is required. The free report comes with our newsletter (see below).
  • Your website address and the competitor you enter.
  • The date, time and IP address at the moment you agreed to the newsletter. We keep these as proof of your consent.
  • Where you came from, as described for the waitlist above.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile checks your browser to stop bots from using the form. See "Cookies and tracking".

When you create an account or log in

  • Your email address. We log you in with a one-time link that expires after 15 minutes. We don't use passwords.
  • Your company website and company name.
  • The competitors and buyer questions you track, and the reports we make for you.
  • The part of your email address before the @, saved as a name in our customer list. Tell us if you want it changed.
  • Whether marketing emails are on or off, when you changed that, and the IP address you used to turn them on. We delete that IP address when you turn marketing emails off.
  • If you turn on a share link for a report, anyone with the link can see that report. The shared page doesn't show your email or the competitors you entered. You can turn the link off at any time.

When you pay

  • Your plan, billing period and billing status, and the customer ID Stripe gives you.
  • Stripe collects your card details and billing address on its own checkout page. We never see or store your full card number.

When you use the referral program (when offered)

  • Which account invited which account, so we can apply the credits. We use this only to apply credits and stop abuse.

When you answer the cookie notice

  • Your choice, Accept or Reject, and when you made it.
  • Your language, a shortened IP address, and the version of the notice you saw. We remove the last part of an IPv4 address, and we cut an IPv6 address to its first 48 bits.

We keep this as proof of what you agreed to.

When you allow page tracking

Only if you say yes. See "Page tracking" for what we record.

When you write to us

  • Your email and what you tell us.

We don't ask for sensitive information, such as health or financial details beyond billing status. Please don't send it to us.

Why we use it

  • To make your reports and send them to you.
  • To run your account, log you in and keep it secure.
  • To bill you, add sales tax where we must collect it, apply credits, and keep accounting records.
  • To send you service emails, such as login links, your weekly report, billing notices and changes to these policies. You get these as long as you have an account.
  • To tell you when WhoNamed opens, if you joined the waitlist.
  • To send you our newsletter and other marketing emails, if you agreed to them.
  • To answer your questions and handle requests.
  • To stop fraud, spam and abuse.
  • To understand, in total numbers, how people use the site.
  • If you allow page tracking, to see which pages people read before they join the waitlist, ask for a free report or buy a plan, so we can improve the site and our emails.

We don't use your information for any other purpose without asking you first, unless the law requires or allows it.

The waitlist

Before WhoNamed opens, you can join the waitlist at www.whonamed.com. You give your email and tick a box to agree to get the WhoNamed launch email, a few emails on getting started, and the WhoNamed newsletter. You have to tick the box to join, and it's never ticked for you. The form says this before you submit.

Joining the waitlist doesn't create an account and doesn't cost anything. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in any of our emails.

The free report and the newsletter

We offer the free report together with our newsletter. To get the free report, you give your email and tick a box to agree to receive the WhoNamed newsletter and marketing emails. The box is never ticked for you. We say this on the form, before you submit.

You can unsubscribe at any time, including right after you get your report. You keep your report. Unsubscribing doesn't affect any account or paid plan.

If you don't want the newsletter, you can skip the free report and still buy a paid plan. A paid plan never requires marketing consent.

Marketing emails

We follow Canada's anti-spam law (CASL).

  • We only send marketing emails if you said yes, or if the law allows it without your yes, for example to a paying customer about the service.
  • Every marketing email names WhoNamed as the sender, includes our mailing address and contact email, and has an unsubscribe link.
  • You can also turn marketing emails off on your account page, or write to support@whonamed.com.
  • We process unsubscribes within 10 business days, and usually within minutes.
  • After you unsubscribe or close your account, we keep your email on a do-not-contact list so we don't email you by mistake. The list holds your email and nothing else.

Besides the newsletter, these are the marketing emails we may send you:

  • A confirmation right after you join the waitlist.
  • One email on the day WhoNamed opens, if you're on the waitlist.
  • A welcome email when your free report is ready, on how to read it.
  • One email about paid plans, 7 days after your free report. We skip it if you already have a plan.
  • One email about 2 weeks after a paid plan ends, if your account is still open and marketing emails are still on.

These emails come from hello@whonamed.com, and your replies go to support@whonamed.com. Our own Mautic system sends them (see "Who else handles your information").

Service emails, such as login links and the weekly report you pay for, aren't marketing. You get them while you have an account.

Page tracking

Page tracking is off until you turn it on. When you first visit www.whonamed.com, a notice asks you to choose "Accept" or "Reject". We track nothing unless you click "Accept". If you click "Reject", tracking stays off and the site works the same.

If you allow it, Mautic, the email system we run on our own server in Quebec, records:

  • a random ID stored in your browser (see the table below)
  • the pages of our site you open, when you open them, and the page that sent you
  • your IP address and the rough location it gives (country, region or city)
  • your browser's language and the type of browser and device you use

At first we don't know who you are. If you then fill in one of our forms that goes to Mautic, such as the waitlist form, Mautic links the ID to your email. From then on, the pages you open are tied to your email, and so are the pages you opened earlier in the same browser.

We track pages only on www.whonamed.com. We don't use Google Analytics, ad pixels or any other outside tracker, and we don't use page data for ads. The data goes straight to our server in Quebec. On the way it passes through Cloudflare, like all traffic to our site, but no one else gets it.

We rely on your consent for page tracking. Quebec law requires this kind of tracking to be off by default, and asks us to tell you how to turn it on. You can say no and still use everything on the site.

Changing your mind

Click "Cookie choices" at the bottom of any page on www.whonamed.com and choose "Reject". Tracking stops right away, and your browser deletes the Mautic ID that www.whonamed.com stored.

Our Mautic server at go.whonamed.com may also have left cookies in your browser. A page on www.whonamed.com can't delete them. Once you reject, they're no longer used for tracking, and they expire on their own: mtc_id when you close your browser, mautic_referer_id after about 30 minutes, and mautic_device_id after 1 year. You can also delete them in your browser settings.

Clearing your browser's cookies and site data stops tracking too, but the notice will ask you again.

Turning tracking off stops new records. To delete the pages already recorded and linked to your email, write to support@whonamed.com. We do it within 30 days. If you never gave us your email, we can't tell which records are yours, so they expire on the schedule in "How long we keep it".

After 13 months we ask you again. If you don't say yes again, tracking turns off.

Cookies and tracking

  • Login cookie. It keeps you logged in for up to 30 days. It's needed for the site to work.
  • Referral cookie (when offered). If you arrive through a referral link, we store the link code for 30 days so both companies get their credit.
  • Where you came from. Our site keeps the campaign tags, the outside page that sent you and your first page in your browser's tab storage, only until you close the tab. It adds them to the form if you submit one. This isn't a cookie, and it doesn't follow you to other sites.
  • Your tracking choice. We save your answer to the tracking notice so we don't ask on every page. We also log each answer as proof (see "When you answer the cookie notice").
  • Cloudflare Turnstile. On the free report form and the waitlist form, Cloudflare checks signals from your browser to tell people from bots. Cloudflare may set its own cookies for this.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics. It runs on all our public pages and counts visits without cookies and without tracking you across sites. We see totals, such as page views and countries, not who you are.
  • Page tracking. Only if you allow it. See "Page tracking".
  • No email tracking. We turned off open and click tracking in Mautic. We don't record whether you open our emails or which links you click.

We don't use advertising cookies and we don't track you on other websites.

Who else handles your information

We use these service providers. They handle personal information only to provide their service to us, under contracts that require them to protect it.

ProviderWhat it does for usWhere data may be stored
StripePayments, invoices, customer billing portalUnited States and other countries
CloudflareWebsite hosting, our database, DNS, bot checks, analytics, secure connections to our servers, sending login links and service emailsUnited States and other countries
Google WorkspaceOur email (support@, hello@), and sending our newsletterUnited States and other countries
Mautic (self-hosted)Our email list, the waitlist, our marketing emails and, if you allow it, page trackingOur own server in Quebec, Canada
Frappe CRM (self-hosted)Our customer list and sales recordsOur own server in Quebec, Canada

The site's data, including your account, the sites and competitors you track, and your reports, is stored in Cloudflare's database in the United States.

Mautic is open-source software. We run it ourselves, so no Mautic company receives your information.

AI services

To make reports, we send questions to OpenAI (ChatGPT), Perplexity, Google (Gemini) and Anthropic (Claude). These questions contain buyer questions, company names and website addresses, including your competitors' names. We don't send your email address or other contact details. These services are in the United States.

Other cases

We may share information if the law requires it, for example with a court order. If WhoNamed is sold or merged, the buyer can receive the information to keep running the service, under this policy. We will tell you before that happens.

Information outside Quebec and Canada

Some providers above store or process information in the United States or other countries. Information there is subject to local laws and may be accessed by courts and authorities there. Before we send personal information outside Quebec, we assess the privacy risks and make sure it will get adequate protection, as Quebec law requires.

How long we keep it

  • Account and report data. While your account is open. A paid account closes when its paid period ends. After your account closes, we delete this data within 90 days, except what the law requires us to keep.
  • Billing records. 6 years after the end of the tax year, as Canadian and Quebec tax law requires.
  • Waitlist data. If you never ask for a free report or open an account, we delete your waitlist record 12 months after the last waitlist email we send you (the launch email or the last getting-started email). That also ends the newsletter for you. If you unsubscribe sooner, we delete the record within 90 days. We keep only your email on the do-not-contact list, plus the proof of your consent for up to 3 years after we delete your record, as described below.
  • Free report data, without an account. 12 months after your last report, then we delete it.
  • Page tracking data. 13 months after each page visit. Visitors we can't link to an email are deleted 13 months after their last visit.
  • Record of your cookie choices. We delete each record 49 months after you make the choice. That's the 13 months your choice applies, plus 3 years to show what you agreed to.
  • Proof of marketing consent. Up to 3 years after we delete your record, so we can show we had your consent.
  • Do-not-contact list. Your email only, for as long as needed to respect your choice.
  • Login links. 15 minutes. Login sessions. Up to 30 days.
  • Support emails. 2 years.

When we delete information, we delete it or make it anonymous for good.

How we protect it

  • Access to personal information is limited to the people and systems that need it.
  • Connections to our site use HTTPS. Our admin tools are behind extra login protection.
  • We store login links and session IDs only in hashed form.
  • If a privacy incident could cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (and, if it applies, the Privacy Commissioner of Canada) as soon as possible. We keep a register of incidents.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • Tell you what personal information we have about you, how we use it, and who has access to it.
  • Give you a copy, including in a common computer format so you can move it elsewhere.
  • Correct information that is wrong or incomplete.
  • Delete information, or stop using it, when we no longer need it or when you withdraw your consent.
  • Stop sending you marketing emails.
  • Stop page tracking and delete the page data linked to your email.

Write to support@whonamed.com. We may need to confirm your identity. We answer within 30 days, at no cost. If we refuse, we tell you why and how to complain.

Withdrawing consent can mean we can't provide part of the service. For example, we can't make reports without your website address.

Complaints

Contact our Person in charge of the protection of personal information first at support@whonamed.com. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to:

  • the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec, www.cai.gouv.qc.ca
  • the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, www.priv.gc.ca, if you live outside Quebec

Children

WhoNamed is a service for businesses. It's not meant for anyone under 18 and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we update the date at the top and add a line below. If a change matters, we email account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect. A new feature that's off until you turn it on takes effect right away, because nothing changes for you unless you choose it. If we want to use your information for a new purpose, we ask you first.

What changed

  • October 25, 2026. Added the waitlist, the list of marketing emails we send, and page tracking, which is off unless you allow it. Added a table of the cookies we use and a log of cookie choices as proof of consent. Email open and click tracking stays off.
